My question is whether it is possible to have both autism and OCD. I was diagnosed with autism while I was still a student. But I think that I have OCD, too, as I struggle with intrusive thoughts very often and feel the urge to do the same thing repeatedly to keep calm.
Hi @ventall, technically, it is possible to have both conditions. According to studies on the subject, most individuals with autism have some anxiety disorder which can also be OCD. However, it’s needless to say that you need professional consultation to determine for sure.
I understand. Well, I had such a consultation a couple of years ago, and no one mentioned anything about OCD. Do you think that OCD is easily skipped as a possible diagnosis?
Likely, your condition was not discovered back then. You may also have developed more noticeable ocd symptoms after that consultation. No matter what, if you doubt that you might suffer from the disorder, please seek a therapist’s help.
I’ve read about a similar case in another community. As far as I remember, the girl/woman mentioned that she takes medicine for OCD and does behavioral therapy, I think it was.
That’s helpful to know. Do you also remember if she was feeling well with those treatments or just coping with the conditions?
I am unsure. I think she was seeing some improvement. Look, I will try to find that comment and send you a message if I succeed.
Thank you so much
