Is Magical Thinking OCD that widely spread?

I have the impression that most people diagnosed with OCD have experienced at least some mild forms of Magical Thinking OCD. I wish to examine that topic in my master’s thesis but do not find much information about it online. Have you noticed a similar pattern?

I have hit and run OCD, but I’ve often catched myself being drawn to specific numbers. I am not entirely sure whether this happens that often but it is an interesting topic to examine. Maybe ask a few specialists whether they have noticed something like this during their years of practice.

Now when I think about it, I might have some sort of magical thinking too. It never caused me problems indeed. I always looked at it as a funny side of my character. Anyway, it’s a great idea to examine this topic further. Good luck with it, and come back with questions if you have.

I think I experience magical thinking from time to time too. However, I don’t want to get rid of it. It makes things more special and unique in my eyes.

I am surprised, so many members here have experienced magical thinking. It has happened to me a few times, but I have never seen it as a problem. Also, I don’t think I have experienced it in the last few years. Anyway, I agree with Joon and William that it is an exciting link to research.

Your opinions matter to me, thank you. I decided to research the link because I see a lot of patterns that are not well researched, and I can bring some value eventually. Happy upcoming holidays. :four_leaf_clover:

Fantastic! I am sure you will end up with a well-written paper. I can only advise you to find a buddy to write it together. From my experience with research back in the years, I mainly regretted that I was not collaborative like the others.

I was wondering whether to write it by myself only or with someone else. I will seriously consider your words because I am not great at making good decisions.

Good luck with it, @moon. As long as you have the opportunity, never do projects alone. There is an excellent saying for that situation: “If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together.”

I love the quote you posted, Joe. I already found a partner for my project and told her about the great people who advised me to do so. I love the internet so much!

I love the internet too. And all those opportunities to connect with people worldwide and learn about so many things. I’m sure you two will do a great job, though.

We are doing well for now, but it’s challenging to find many people with OCD that we can interview. Maybe there are some people here who want to spend a few minutes answering our questions? You will get a bunch of karma points. :hugs:

Yes, honey, send me whatever questionnaire you want. I promise to be honest with my answers. I get karma points every day because I am too nice anyway :kissing:

Haha, you are the best. I just sent you a short questionnaire. I was so interested in exploring magical thinking before, but now I feel so confused with all the information I gathered. There is also conflicting information which drives me mad.

I guess things will get more clear with time and information filtered. After not doing the research alone, you can discuss the things that make you uncertain. Let me know if I can help further.

Working with others and learning how to cooperate is another challenge I took on this year. I am still learning how to be creative while discussing things with others. Usually, I am used to closing myself and analyzing until I find a conclusion.

I understand what you mean, but learning the opposite will allow you more free time by letting others do their part. How is your progress so far, if it is not a secret?

I noticed that I could feel comfortable sharing my mind with others. However, I found out that it’s not possible to do that with everyone but only with people I like and whose opinions I respect.

I think that this is more than enough. We all feel safer and more comfortable talking with those we have respect for. Did you get any positive outcomes from being more open with people?

I did for sure. I believe everyone who likes to do things primarily by themselves should consider improving their social skills. Also, I feel more confident in myself, knowing that I can more easily cooperate with others.
